Microsoft has deeply integrated SkyDrive in Windows 8.1 system than ever. And SkyDrive folders are now appeared in the Explorer navigation pane for default.
If you use other file storage services such as DropboxGoogle Drive, iCloud and do not want to use SkyDrive, you can easily remove it from the Explorer navigation pane with this simple registry tweak in this tutorial.

Note: you must be logged on to Windows 8.1 as an administrator in order to perform these steps below.

1. Press the     + R key to open the Run box.

2. Type in Regedit > press Enter.

3. If prompted by User Account Control, press Yes button.

4. Navigate to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8E74D236-7F35-4720-B138-1FED0B85EA75}\ShellFolder

5. Now you have to Take Ownership and Grant full Control of the ShellFolder registry key.

6. Double click on Attributes to modify its value.

7. Type in 0 then click on OK.

8. Sign out or Restart your computer.
Now open File Explorer to check the result.

If you run Windows 8.1 Pro or Enterprise edition and you are not familiar with registry tweak, you still can completely disable SkyDrive by using Group Policy to remove it.
