Error code 0x80070714 - Windows 8.1 update

Error code 0x80070714 - Windows 8.1 update
Another error (code 0x80070714) is making many Windows users go crazy. This error code appears while upgrading to Windows 8.1 from Windows Store.


If you are struggling with this error, here're several suggestions you should try to solve the issue.
Note: before you try make sure that you:
  • Install all updates for your PC, all drivers must be updated.
  • Physically disconnect all external devices (HDD, SDD,...) except mouse and keyboard
1. Do you have the SQL Server program and any security program installed on your PC?
  • Uninstall all of them
  • Press Windows key + R > type in MSCONFIG > Enter
  • Navigate to the Services tab > Disable all services that start with "SQL Server"
  • Reboot
  • Try to upgrade
2. Use the SFC /SCANNOW (System File Checker) command
  • Press the Windows button + X + A to open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  • If sfc /scannow did actually repair any files > Restart your computer and try updating again.
  • If a SFC /SCANNOW command is unable to repair corrupted system files, try to fix it using DISM.
    Type this command in the Command Prompt window: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Once done, restart your computer and try updating again.
3. Use the Windows Update Troubleshooter and Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant
The Troubleshooter will automatically fix some update problems. The Upgrade Assistant will check if your programs and devices are compatible with Windows 8.1 and provides a compatibility report from which you can find useful suggestion to get the update successfully.
  • Download and run Windows Update Troubleshooter
  • Download and run Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant
  • If the Upgrade Assistant identify available updates for drivers, please update them.
  • If it find any programs that are not compatible with Windows 8.1, please uninstall all of them.
  • Once done, restart your computer and try updating again.
    Note: if the downloading progress fails, go to this Microsoft Support site and click on Run now button. Once done, try updating again.
