You must use an administrator account to be able to do the steps in this tutorial.
You will need to have your Windows 8.1 product key number from your online order information, in the confirmation email, or on the Windows 8.1 package.
Product key of Windows 8 will not be able to activate Windows 8.1.
If you only have a Windows 8 product key, and wanted to clean install Windows 8.1, then the only method is that you have to clean install Windows 8, activate it with your Windows 8 key first, then update to Windows 8.1 via the Windows Store.

Step 1. Click here to download and run the WindowsSetupBox.exe file from the Microsoft website.
To download a 32-bit Windows 8.1 ISO, you must do this step in 32-bit Windows.
To doanload a 64-bit Windows 8.1 ISO, you must do this step in 64-bit Windows.

Step 2. You’ll be prompted by UAC, then click on Yes

Step 3. Type in your Windows 8.1 product key, and click on Next.
You will only be able to enter a Windows 8.1 product key.
You will not be able to enter a Window Media Center Pack or Windows 8 Pro Pack product key. These are considered to be an upgrade key and can't be used to install Windows 8.1 with. You could use Add Features to add the Window Media Center Pack or Windows 8 Pro Pack again after Windows 8.1 is finished installing.
